I have read all the Research Papers, but have not graded them, yet. I wanted to get an overview before I use the rubric. I should have them graded by Monday (unless Mama decides to have a really active weekend!) I noticed many strengths and a few weaknesses that need to be addressed.
New Vocabulary will be handed out after Thanksgiving.
Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

Pre-AP students are coming home with a graded Vocabulary test that needs a parent signature. Wanted to be sure you are aware of this homework assignment.
Research papers on Eskimos or Arctic Animals due on Thursday, no late papers will be accepted. Am attaching the grading rubric once again. This is what I will use to grade the papers.
Our next novel will be Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher. Students will be bringing this book home sometime this week. This novel is set in the Middle East in a Sultan's palace. This is "The story of Shahrazad, the queen who saved her own life and the lives of many other women by telling tales for 1001 nights." It is set in a time long ago, perhaps a thousand or more years ago. There is a harem, but its roll is to provide a place for intrigue. Eunuchs guard the women, but my definition is "men the Sultan can trust." I figure there is plenty of time in the future for them to get a more precise definition.
This book was recommended for reading in Pre-AP classes. I chose it because I got caught up in the story and stayed up late one night to see how it ended. Since we are currently involved in a mission in the Middle East, it also provides background into the culture and mindset of the people of this area of the world.
I hope my students enjoy this story as much as I do.
LA 1 and LA 2
We took a vocabulary test on Friday. Many students did not do well so am retesting any who missed more than ten on the first test. I should be returning these papers tomorrow. Wanted you to know to be looking for these graded papers as it is the first test grade of the new six weeks.
New Vocabulary will not be assigned until next Monday since we need to spend more time on our writing this week. We are working on REASSessment of our blueprint stories. The new and improved stories should be finished next week. The REASSessment process will prepare students for next year's TAAK's Writing test.
I plan to begin reading the book Holes with both my first and last classes later this week. We only have one class set of these books so we will spend class time reading together. This is a really wonderful book with many good "life lessons" to be discussed.
