LA 1

This is the end of the first six weeks. AR requirements should be completed by Thursday, Sept. 25. I gave each student their totals as of yesterday so they would know what they need to do before Thursday. AR % correct counts as one test grade and the points count as another test grade. We read a book together in class which was worth 2 points so each student was really only responsible for 8 points on their own.

Vocabulary Words
are from the Unit 3 Handouts. Words are: bluff, cautious, consist, despise, haven, miniature, monarch, obstacle, postpone, straggle, treacherous, vivid. We have discussed the first 9 in class. Test will be next Tuesday.

A project or report will be required beginning next six weeks. Details to follow.

Groups of students are creating a board game (5 groups) or museum artifacts (1 group) as a culminating project for The Cay by Theodore Taylor. I am giving class time this week, but some may need to be done at home. The projects are tentatively due on Friday. I will monitor progress and make adjustments to due date as necessary.

Vocabulary Words are from the Unit 3 Handouts. Words are: atmosphere, brilliant, convince, endure, glance, harsh, plunge, precious, swift, unite. We have discussed the first 4 in class, and today we will talk about glance and harsh. We add two every day so if students study a little each day there should be no problem knowing these words. Test will be next Tuesday.
