All Classes
We had an additional Silent Reading Time as many students do not have the required AR points for this six weeks. Our grades must be completed and ready to export by the end of the school day on Friday. I need to have everything turned in by this afternoon so I can do my job.
REMEMBER:
AR counts for TWO (2) tests grades EACH six weeks. One test grade is for the percentage correct, and one is for the points earned.
I read the chapter in Rope Burn by Jan Siebold with a story about the following proverb: "WHEN IN ROME DO AS THE ROMANS DO" Students helped me write a story about travel in Ireland that fit with this proverb.

My goodness, it is Tuesday already!!
All Classes
This week we are focusing on using proverbs, a 'cousin' of the simile, in our writing. I am reading from a book called Rope Burn by Jan Siebold to each class. It begins with the sentence, "I hate writing." Ms. Siebold then proceeds to show how a story can be built around a proverb.
Our first proverb was: One good turn deserves another.
Today’s was: He who hesitates is lost.
The stories are darling and the students seem to be enjoying them. All students are encouraged to find pictures or headlines from newspapers and magazines that depict the proverb. I will accept anything as long as the student can supply a reasonable explanation for the connection.
Today was library day and we spent a portion of our class period reading silently. AR points for this six weeks should be obtained by Wednesday, September 25.
